Sunset at the Asheville Lodge
I moved to Asheville in 2001 and fell in love with its scenic beauty, climate, and rich cultural life. In 2004, I completed my dream home on 3-1/2 acres of magnificent scenery, with a stream, pond and hiking trails. It’s just a 10-mile (20-minute) drive to the center of downtown Asheville, yet completely quiet and private. The two nearest houses are barely visible in the winter and completely hidden for the nine months of the year when the trees are in leaf. Standing on the front deck and looking out over the great valley below, one sees an unobstructed and panoramic fifty-mile view northward, past Weaverville and Mars Hill, all the way to Sam's Gap and the Great Smoky Mountain range that divides North Carolina from Tennessee. The house is 2862 square feet (including a 387 sq. ft. game and music room on the lower level), with large, sunny rooms with high ceilings, and a fully-equipped modern kitchen.
So
why am I offering it as a vacation rental? I was fully expecting to live
here for the rest of my life. But then in January 2005, I fell in love
with a wonderful woman and we married in March 2006. She works in Johnson
City, Tennessee, about 80 miles from here, and her kids are in school there.
No way could she pick up and move here, so I moved there. I couldn't bear
the thought of selling my beautiful home — when
the time comes, my wife and I will retire here — so I transformed
it into the Asheville Lodge. I think you'll enjoy
it as much as we do (we loved it so much that we had our wedding here).
It's ideal for couples, families with children, friends, and as a retreat
for companies, religious and fraternal groups, non-profits and other
organizations.
You
can recharge your batteries and rejuvenate your spirit without leaving
the house. Enjoy a long, relaxing bath in our Jacuzzi. Curl up with a book, or watch satellite TV or DVD/VHS on our wide-screen TV. Our satellite service allows the TVs to be independently controlled.
Sit on the deck surrounded by birds and
flowers. Watch the sun rise and set over the mountains while the pressures
of the outside world slip away. Practice making new gourmet recipes in
our fully-equipped kitchen, or just grill up some burgers and hot dogs
on our outdoor propane grill and then enjoy eating in two indoor areas
or outside on the deck. Kids (adults too!) can shoot
basketball hoops outside or play music or foosball in our play room,
which is isolated from the rest of the house on the lower level so noise
won't disturb anyone.
Whether you want an exciting, action-packed family adventure, or a chance
to explore, or to shop for beautiful things, or just to spend time alone
with that special someone in your life, you will find it here.

“My wife and I spent a long weekend at this amazing mountain hideaway, overlooking Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The hilltop setting is private (no other dwellings are visible from the house) but accessible. It is only 20 minutes from downtown Asheville, one of the true arts and crafts communities in the southeast, and from the Biltmore Estate, the largest private, open to the public home in America. A radius of 40 miles from Asheville includes a dozen gorgeous mountain and valley side trips.
“The house is large and well designed, and is ideally laid out for a large family or multiple couples. Well-placed windows and an outside wraparound porch bring the outdoors in and vice-versa. The three stories and floor plan provide privacy for each couple and common space for dining, conversation, and music. The appliances and facilities are modern in a rustic but elegant home.
“We loved it and had zero complaints. We hope to return with our family or other couples.”
